C-track Nominated For Two Telematics Awards in Detroit, USA

DigiCore Holdings Limited, South Africa’s world-leading supplier of vehicle tracking, fleet management and telematics solutions, has been nominated in two categories for this year’s prestigious Telematics Awards, namely, ‘Best aftermarket Device’ and ‘Best use of Telematics Technology in the Public sector’.

The Telematics Awards, held annually in Detroit, USA, is the world’s premier telematics ‘competition’, “recognising and celebrating the key companies that are driving the industry forward and pushing the boundaries in GPS technology,” says Precksha Saksena, managing director of Telematics Update, industry mouthpiece and organiser of the event.

According to DigiCore’s CEO, Nick Vlok, “We were nominated last year in the ‘Best Aftermarket Device’ category which was a great honour, but to be in the running in two categories this year doubles our chances of winning, which is fantastically exciting”.

Facing challenges from industry heavyweights in both categories, DigiCore, via its Ctrack MaXx fleet management solution and its customised Ctrack deployment in the United Kingdom’s Royal Mail fleet, will fly the South African flag in Detroit at the Awards ceremony on 7 June 2010 at the Henry Ford Rouge Factory. "This is a crucial year for the industry as the recovery process has already begun, and, telematics players, now more than ever, need to come together to strategise for the next decade of telematics service provision,” adds Saksena. “The finalists for these awards stand out in an industry where innovation is expected as the norm”.

Ctrack MaXx (contending for Best aftermarket Device award) is DigiCore’s latest full-blown fleet management solution which gives users the power to access important fleet information quickly via the latest data warehouse and business intelligence (BI) technologies.

“Through this system, instructions and new destinations can immediately be sent to a driver. All the necessary information regarding the location is instantly transferred to the navigation system. This makes it ideal for an environment where vehicles have to be dispatched quickly and accurately,” Vlok says.

As a vital component of Royal Mail’s fleet management infrastructure, Ctrack (nominated in the Best use of Telematics Technology in the Public sector category) “is fitted to 8 000 vehicles in the Royal Mail fleet to improve route planning and analysis, enhance driver performance and increase management control,” says Mike Devanny, Head of Fleet and Maintenance Services at Royal Mail. “Ctrack has helped the postal service reduce fuel usage by more than 10 per cent – a saving of £4.4 million – whilst improving the efficiency and accident record of its collections and delivery fleet".

As South Africa readies itself for the FIFA World Cup kick-off, Vlok and his colleagues will be holding thumbs for a victory in the Telematics Awards shoot-out. “Whether we win or not, simply reaching the finals of these awards is a fitting tribute to all the hard work and dedication of DigiCore’s staff around the world over the last 12 months. Obviously, a win in either category will enhance our status in the industry and help consolidate our position as a premier-league player in the international telematics arena,” Vlok concludes.

Formed in 1998, DigiCore Holdings is a leading GPS/GSM vehicle management and tracking solutions provider. It specialises in the development of cutting edge vehicle monitoring technologies, providing measurable business and operational benefits to its clients by facilitating total visibility and control of their mobile assets.
