Tanker Services has been the market leader in the South African tank-truck industry since its inception in 1959. Their staff are highly trained and possess a wealth of product knowledge and technical expertise.
Having been instrumental in the development of the transport industry in South Africa, Tanker Services’ senior managers are frequently called upon to play a prominent role in the Road Freight Association, the Motor Transport Owners Association and government bodies such as the South African Roads Board.
Among their customers are many of the largest multi-national and regional companies operating in southern Africa, and upholding their social, safety and image standards has always been of paramount importance to Tanker Services. Their commitment to maintaining the highest possible standards is endorsed in their mission statement, and that is why Tanker Services has chosen Ctrack for the majority of their vehicles.
“We first installed Ctrack early in 2001 and now around 80% of Tanker Services’ vehicles have Ctrack on board,”: explains Richard Coetzer, managing director of Tanker Services. “Ctrack has allowed us to get more of a handle on our vehicles because we can establish where it is almost immediately.
“Over the years I have used various other products and I found that Ctrack is by far the superior system. Although the other products have been similar in their capabilities, none have given me quite the same functions as Ctrack.
“I can do so much more with it,” explains Lourens. “I can do speed analysis as well as download business reports and various other statistics from each vehicle.”
Tanker Services are committed to differentiating the quality of their service by focusing on consistent on-time deliveries. They have implemented a service reliability measurement system, whereby each customer’s specific service needs is measured against Tanker Services’ performance.
Ctrack is an integral part of this process and enables Tanker Services to provide their customers with accurate information and statistics on their deliveries. Tanker Services’ performance is compared to previously agreed trip standards such as time taken, kilometres travelled and payload carried. It also ensures that documentation and invoicing is completed timeously and correctly.
Tanker Services’ control offices are manned 24 hours a day. This, in conjunction with Ctrack, allows Tanker Services to give their customers accurate, up-to-date information on the progress of their deliveries.
“The system is simple and easy to understand and has also helped with excessive idling and deviation from routes,” continues Coetzer. He goes on to explain that the benefits of using Ctrack include various cost-saving benefits such as a reduction in fuel and maintenance costs, an improvement in operational productivity and utilisation, improvement in time management and customer service and a reduced risk on valuable assets and cargo. “All of these benefits can be passed on to our customers in the form of reduced cost and better service.”
Dirk de Groot, depot manager for Tanker Services’ Germiston depot, is equally impressed with Ctrack. “Operationally speaking, Ctrack works very well for us. It enables us to check on our drivers and encourage them to perform at their peak. We send our drivers to a private company for scoring and at the moment our rating is at 97%. We would not have been able to achieve this without the Ctrack system.
“We are also able to see to small problems immediately,” continues De Groot, “before they become big problems. Being at the coalface, it is always better to prevent catastrophes rather than clean up after them. However, when something does happen to go wrong, Ctrack helps to compile accident reports and prevent the same thing happening in the future.”
But what does De Groot think makes Ctrack stand out from the rest? “The after-sales support is excellent,” he states emphatically. “We have a meeting with the Ctrack technical staff every two weeks to ensure that the system is running smoothly. So for we have not experienced any mechanical or technical problems on the system whatsoever.”
